Series: Penn State Logic Seminar Date: Tuesday, March 15, 2005 Time: 2:30 - 3:45 PM Place: 103 Pond Laboratory Speaker: John Clemens, Penn State, Mathematics Title: Borel Reducibility of Analytic Equivalence Relations, part 2 Abstract: It is known by a result of Friedman and Stanley that there is no Borel equivalence relation to which every other Borel equivalence relation is Borel reducible; however, there are analytic equivalence relations to which every analytic equivalence relation (and hence every Borel one) is reducible, and the same is true for co-analytic equivalence relations. I will discuss the class of analytic equivalence relations to which every Borel equivalence relation is reducible, and show in particular that there is no minimum such relation.
