Series: Penn State Logic Seminar Date: Tuesday, September 23, 2003 Time: 2:30 - 3:45 PM Place: 113 McAllister Building Speaker: Natasha Dobrinen, Penn State, Mathematics Title: Introduction to Boolean Algebras, Ultrafilters, and Ultraproducts Abstract: We will introduce Boolean algebras, the usual partial ordering on a Boolean algebra, and infinitary Boolean operations. We then will cover the basics of filters, ultrafilters, ultraproducts, ending with some relevant basic facts which will be background for a later Logic Seminar lecture by Christopher Griffin. This material can be found in Koppelberg's "Handbook of Boolean Algebra", or Jech's "Set Theory" book.
