Series: Penn State Logic Seminar

Date: Tuesday, February 25, 2003

Time: 2:30 - 3:45 PM

Place: 113 McAllister Building

Speaker: Richard Mansfield, Penn State, Mathematics

Title: The Banach-Tarski Paradox

Abstract:

We show that a solid sphere the size of a pea can be divided into five
pieces and then reassembled to form a new solid sphere the size of the
sun. Some may debate the words "can be" since the decomposition
cannot be carried out physically.
