Series: Penn State Logic Seminar Date: Tuesday, September 4, 2001 Time: 2:30 - 3:45 PM Place: 306 Boucke Building Speaker: Natasha L. Dobrinen, Mathematics, Penn State Title: Introduction to von Neumann's Problem Concerning Measurable Boolean Algebras, part 2 Abstract: This is a continuation of last week's talk. Von Neumann conjectured that every countably complete Boolean algebra which satisfies the countable chain condition and the weak (omega,omega)-distributive law carries a strictly positive, countably additive measure. We discuss some of the background and history of von Neumann's problem.
